Dominic Vallely presents to fire safety engineers of the future

Dominic Vallely, a Tenos Director, was recently invited by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) School of Forensic & Investigative Sciences to present to thirty students studying for a Masters.

Dominic presented on the subject of ‘Fire Risk Assessments in Practice – Beyond the Theory’ which formed part of the students Risk Assessment & Management module.

Drawing on his vast experience as a Chartered Engineer carrying out fire risk assessments, together with use of real-life case studies, Dominic provided the students with a valuable insight into fire risk assessments in practice.

In the presentation, he provided:

• An overview of the legislative requirements;
• Advice on what guidance is available;
• Discussion on the importance of understanding building construction, in particular when it was built and the standards that would of applied at that time;
• A summary of the key elements of a fire risk assessment;
• Guidance on why the interview and document review is important.

The presentation was well received by the students, employers and accreditors of the School’s courses.
