David Bostelmann and Simon Hibberd took part in this year’s John Lewis Partnership Alpine Cycle Challenge, helping to raise a staggering £19,000 for the Friendship Works Charity.
Both David and Simon travelled to the Alps on 15th September 2017 to take part in the event.
The team cycled for two days over five legendary Tour de France summits, following a course similar to La Marmotte.
They started with a 31km climb over the Col de la Croix de Fer (2067m), ride back over the Col du Glandon (1924m) and up the 3.8km Lacets de Montvernier (787m) on the way over to the 16km climb over the Col du Telegraphe (1568m) to end day one in Valloire. Day two started with a 22 km climb over the Col du Galibier (2646 m) and then ride to the infamous 16km climb and 21 bends to Alpe d’Huez (1845m).
David and Simon also completed the 100 mile Prudential RideLondon as part of their training for the event.
Part of the national charity Family Action, Friendship Works is a children’s mentoring service dedicated to improving the emotional well-being, resilience and life chances of disadvantaged children and young people in London, through long-term mentoring. Their friendships provide children with one-to-one support through a trusted adult to talk to and access to new opportunities through regular outings with their mentors. This crucial support allows the children to enjoy being a child and ultimately enables them to reach their full potential.
