Fire Risk Assessments

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO) requires the Responsible Person of any non-domestic premise to carry out a fire risk assessment and provide an appropriate level of general fire precautions to reduce the risk of fire and consequential harm to persons in, or in the vicinity of, the premise.

Therefore, if you are the Responsible Person you must carry out a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment of the premise and review it regularly. For a workplace, the Responsible Person will be the employer and any other person who may have control over any part of the workplace e.g. the owner or occupier. Where there are 5 or more employees, a record must be kept of any significant findings.

The RRO has also introduced much greater accountability for managing fire safety in premises and this reinforces the importance of engaging experienced and competent fire engineers to ensure legal compliance.

Tenos fire risk assessment services

Tenos conduct Fire Risk Assessments to assist the Responsible Person/s in fulfilling their duties under the FSO. It is part of our on-going offering to assist Responsible Persons in the effective identification of fire risks and management of fire safety within all types of premises, from high rise residential premises to complex healthcare premises.

Why appoint Tenos to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment?

In carrying out Fire Risk Assessments, we adhere to the requirements of ‘International Standard ISO/IEC 17020 – Conformity assessment – Requirements for the operation of various types of bodies performing inspection’. This International Standard has been drawn up with the objective of promoting confidence in bodies performing inspection.

A Tenos Fire Risk Assessment also represents current best practice following the principles of PAS 79:2020-1: ‘Fire risk assessment – Premises other than housing’ which is published by BSI and conducted in three parts:

  1. A discussion with the Responsible Person’s representative.
  2. A visual assessment of the premises.
  3. A review of fire safety related records and a close-out meeting with the Responsible Person’s representative.

Our assessors conduct FRA’s in complex healthcare premises and have an in-depth knowledge of HTM05-03-Part K which supplements the methodology of PAS 79 for this specific purpose group. Those Fire Risk Assessments include consideration for Primary (shared overarching general fire precautions) and Secondary (locally assessed/managed areas) FRA’s.

A Tenos fire risk assessment will also provide a Responsible Person with a recommended action plan to assist in reducing or maintaining the level of fire safety risk.

Competency

Our fire risk assessors are highly qualified, trained and demonstrate their competency via the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), which is an accredited institution that operates a register of Fire Risk Assessors (FRAs) in the UK. In addition, our Fire Risk Assessments are managed and reviewed by Chartered Engineers registered with the Engineering Council through the Institution of Fire Engineers.

Tenos are also able to provide fire risk assessments for domestic premises to satisfy the requirements of Section 156 of the Building Safety Act 2022 (BSA) which makes a number of amendments to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO) to improve fire safety in all buildings regulated by the FSO.

Following completion of a Fire Risk Assessment, Tenos can provide you with a comprehensive fire safety management consultancy service.
